Gordonsville, VA (January 19, 2024) – Indie sensation Andrew Neil, hailing from Gordonsville, VA, is gearing up for the release of the highly anticipated single “Resurrection” on January 19, 2024, under the moniker: Andrew Neil & Code Purple. Classified as alternative rock and post-grunge, the song promises a unique blend of punchy dynamics, raw authenticity, and profound lyrics that resonate with the universal theme of overcoming life’s challenges.

Themes of Redemption, Renewal, and Hope
“Resurrection” goes beyond musical boundaries, delving into the profound themes of redemption, renewal, and the second chance at life and love. Andrew Neil, the creative force behind the band, reflects on the song, stating, “It conveys themes of rising from the ashes, emerging from depression, and falling in love with life again.” The band’s journey, marked by struggles with mental illness, addiction, and homelessness, is channeled into their music, creating a relatable experience for listeners. It seamlessly weaves between energetic, driving rhythms and more introspective, melodic sections creating a rich tapestry of sound.

There’s a saying ‘Wherever you go, go with all your heart’. When Code Purple recorded our first album everyone showed up prepared but, equally as important, with their heart in the right place… the place of love

A Sonic Journey with Depth and Authenticity

Describing the sound of “Resurrection,” Neil explains,

It is very punchy, yet there are moments of dynamics. The song, like the whole album is like a diamond in the rough; polished just enough to maintain raw, true authenticity, with subtle, yet relatable nuggets of truth.”

– Andrew Neil, Lead Singer, Andrew Neil & Code Purple

Daniel Houser, lead guitarist/banjo player, adds,

Sonically, the song has the balance of a lit candle, flowing like the pouring of candle wax, with heavy chorus tones for clarity.”

A Song Beyond Music: Resilience, Love, and Redemption

“Resurrection” invites listeners on an evocative journey of personal transformation, exploring the depths of adversity and the uplifting power of finding solace and hope in a special person. Ray Maternick, band manager and the founder of Tree Heart Records LLC , offers an insightful analysis of the track:

Almost everyone can relate to the song ‘Resurrection.’ It emphasizes the theme of resurrection and the opportunity for second chances. It is a testament to the transformative impact of love and support, steering life towards a positive trajectory. Our family, like many other families, experienced this first-hand.”

Maternick’s interpretation sheds light on the deeper layers of the song, capturing its essence as an anthem for renewal, emotional revival, and hope – even in the darkest times.

The song hits harder than Jesus Christ Superstar as it packs a significant emotional punch, powerful lyrics, dynamic composition, and a passionate performance. I believe it has potential to resonate deeply with audiences and leave a lasting impression.”

– Daniel Houser, Lead Guitarist/Banjo, Andrew Neil and The Code Purple

About Andrew Neil & Code Purple:

Andrew Neil, born on August 9, 1988, in Colorado Springs, is the creative force behind the indie sensation “Andrew Neil & Code Purple.” Overcoming challenges, Andrew’s journey is a testament to the transformative power of music. A former High School Athlete and US Military Academy recruit, his life took an unexpected turn in 2009 after a traumatic head injury, sparking the creation of over 450 original compositions. Often compared to “Outsider music artist” Daniel Johnston, Andrew’s musical narrative unfolded in 2017 with “Code Purple,” a lofi masterpiece recorded within the walls of a psychiatric hospital. Partnering with producer Andy Waldeck, subsequent studio albums like “Merry Go Round (2018),” “Freak” (2019), “Sunny Side” (2021) and “Alien” (2022), showcased resilience and creative depth, even amid a battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2019.

Sparked by an opportunity to perform as the opening act for the Raelyn Nelson Band in Nashville, Andrew Neil formed a new band to back him up. The band’s initial lineup featured Andrew Neil on rhythm guitar and lead vocals, accompanied by Daniel Houser on lead guitar and banjo, Alan Warren on bass, Rick Shaw on mandolin, and Zach Bullock on drums.

Following their performance, the band experimented with their sound by recording and releasing a lo-fi track titled “I Like” as a single. However, shortly after its release, Zach Bullock and Alan Warren stepped down from the band due to long-term commitment issues. This led to a month-long search for a new drummer, culminating in the addition of Logan Wayne, while Rick Shaw transitioned to playing bass.

In August 2023, with their refreshed lineup, “Andrew Neil & Code Purple” spent four productive days at White Star Sound Studios in Louisa, Virginia. During this time, they recorded twelve original tracks. Out of these, nine tracks were selected to be part of their debut album “Resurrection,” marking a significant milestone in the band’s evolving musical narrative.

Beyond the studio, a forthcoming book chronicles Andrew Neil’s battle with mental illness and cancer. As anticipation builds for the official release of the album’s Title track “Resurrection” on 19 January 2024, Andrew Neil’s mantra, “Music makes a difference in this jello world,” resonates as a guiding principle in their remarkable journey of resilience and self-discovery.
