The NYC-based singer-songwriter will release her new song on Friday, September 8

New York, NY (September 8, 2023) – Alt-Country artist Diane Louvel is releasing her new song, “Above and Beyond” this Friday, September 8th. This single will eventually be a part of Louvel’s upcoming album, also titled Above and Beyond. This new track from Diane Louvel explores themes of societal expectations and work-life balance through melancholic folk instrumentals and raw, down-to-earth vocals.

“Above and Beyond” Lyrics
I wake up the dawn and
Above and beyond is the altar that we’re gonna pray to
To make ourselves loved
Make ourselves everything we ever promised
Everything we compromise
But I’ll carry on, walking along
Invisible to everyone but you

The lyrics behind “Above and Beyond” signify that we can easily lose ourselves in striving to please others. The title of this track is an overused expression in the corporate world, which fosters a clever irony between the meaning of the lyrics and the unraveling of their meaning. This juxtaposition can also be seen within the humorous aspect of Louvel’s words and the sincerity in her voice.

The song pokes fun at the idea that you only really get ahead in life by going “above and beyond” what’s technically required. Once this precedent is set, that overachiever mentality becomes the true expectation. There’s no such thing as meeting the standard anymore because we are seen as lesser-than if we don’t push ourselves to over perform. In the corporate world, this idea isn’t anything new, but Louvel strives to acknowledge the personal sacrifice that is required to survive in that type of environment.

This song was originally written as observational humor but it turned out to be kind of sincere. I wanted to include the idea of “being seen” and the power of friendship as a vital antidote to an otherwise cynical view of hustle culture.”

About Diane Louvel:
Never underestimate the power of proximity. Growing up in two epicentres of culture, fashion, and music (New York City and Paris), it isn’t exactly a surprise that Diane Louvel ended up a creative artist; what is staggering is the level of mastery she’s achieved in her craft as a singer-songwriter. Weathering the storm of losing her brother (and the loneliness that followed) provided more than some meaningful tunes: it armed her with purpose. The result is spritely, almost effervescent Americana, rooted with a strength only a working woman’s hands that tills the land could have. And with a voice like Joni Mitchell by way of Neko Case, it’s just a matter of time before fans of classic bards like Laura Nyro and Willie Nelson (and contemporaries like Father John Misty and Lana Del Rey) get wise to this rising star in the circuit.
