Slumberland Records Celebrates 35th Birthday with Concert & Signature Beer
An awful lot has changed since Slumberland Records released its first record in December 1989, but one thing that has remained stubbornly persistent is the label’s dedication to the ephemeral pleasures of indie pop, regardless of which way the winds of fashion blow. While the bigger names on the label might sound familiar – Stereolab, Lilys, The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, Black Tambourine, and Veronica Falls are all part of the Slumberland family – it’s their continued dedication to elevating and amplifying the music of thrilling young unknowns that is Slumberland’s ethos and raison d’etre.
2024 was Slumberland’s 35th year of operation, and with twelve stellar releases, it might have been its most productive yet. To celebrate this substantial milestone, they’re returning to their roots in Washington, DC, for a two-night celebration of the label, including a showcase featuring one of the oldest bands on the label (Lorelei) and two of the newest (Jeanines and Lightheaded) and the launch of the bespoke, limited edition Stop What Yr Brewing IPA in cooperation with DC-area breweries Ocelot and Bluejacket. Great live music and yummy beer? Sounds like a very Slumberland weekend!
